“It was already a great feeling having a gold medal with the team,” 14-year-old Stormanns said after his victory. “But it is a very nice feeling to have a second one around my neck. I came here to win the one for the team, this is what my mother [Helena Stormanns] always taught me: Always for the team. Now that I have two medals, I am very happy, and mostly, I am very proud of my horse.”
The FEI Jumping European Championship for Young Riders, Juniors and Children 2022 concluded on Sunday in Oliva Nova, with the individual finals for Young Riders and Children.
Clears from Tillmann, Ferch and Stormanns in the final round secured the Germans the team gold.
At the FEI Jumping European Championship for Young Riders, Juniors and Children 2022 in Oliva Nova, Spain, medals were decided in Saturday's competitions: First in the individual final for the Juniors, then in the team final for the Children.
Individually, 49 horse-and-rider combinations in the Children’s category started the second qualifier carrying zero penalties, and 19 of them produced another clear on Friday.
Belgium really put pressure on Great Britain today, with clear rounds from Thibault Philippaerts and Derby de Riverland (Kannan x L’Arc de Triomphe), Thibeau Spits and Classic Touch DH (Casall x Corrado I) as well as Roy Van Beek and Chacco Me Biolley (Chacco-Blue x Argentinus) – which meant the team could discharge the four faults from Tristan Guisson and Naturelle vh Legitahof Z (Nabab de Reve x For Pleasure), adding nothing to their overnight score of 14.08.
Individually, Thibeau Spits has taken over the lead on a score of 1.9, followed by Grace Debney on 2.75 in second, Henrike Ostermann on 2.81 in third, Oliver Fletcher on 3.34 in fourth and Hannes Ahlmann on 3.61 in fifth.
On Thursday, competitions at the FEI Jumping European Championship for Young Riders, Juniors and Children 2022 in Oliva Nova, Spain, continued with the Juniors’ team final, as well as the second individual qualifier for the Young Riders which also counted as the first round of their team final.
Belgian Chef d’Equipe Rik Deraedt was very happy with his team’s effort on Wednesday. “I am happy that my four riders jumped clear,” he said. “I think we saw great sport today."
France, Italy, Norway and Spain were the top nations on Wednesday, when the competitions in the Children category kicked off in Oliva Nova. With 94 horse-and-rider combinations at start, the riders jumped a 1.25m course and the class was presented by Springstal Yves Houtackers.
